If you could let go of something that’s been taking up space in your mind, what would it be?
Many people live with persistent thoughts, worries, or beliefs that quietly affect their confidence, emotions, and daily life. These may show up as anxiety, overwhelm, self-doubt, or a constant feeling of not being good enough.
You might notice it when you can’t switch off, when you overthink conversations, or when you hold yourself back from opportunities. Often, these thoughts don’t feel dramatic — just exhausting.
Are Your Thoughts Affecting Your Mental Wellbeing?
Take a moment to reflect:
Why is this thought or feeling playing on your mind?
Is it having a negative impact on your mental health?
Does it affect your confidence, relationships, or work life?
Does it appear more strongly in certain situations?
Is it influencing your decisions or limiting your potential?
In counselling, these are often the first questions we gently explore together.
Where Do Negative Beliefs Come From?
As a counsellor and hypnotherapist, I work with people to understand not just what they are feeling, but why. Very often, the beliefs that hold us back in adulthood began much earlier in life.
One of the most common subconscious beliefs I see is:
“I’m not good enough.”
This belief may come from a single comment made in childhood or adolescence — by a parent, teacher, or another child at school. One moment, one sentence, that stayed with you.
Over time, the subconscious mind looks for more evidence to support that belief. This can slowly erode self-esteem and self-belief, often without conscious awareness.
How “Not Being Good Enough” Shows Up in Adult Life
Low self-belief and negative self-talk can impact people in many different ways. You may:
Experience a constant critical inner voice
Avoid trying new things due to fear of failure
Set unrealistically high standards for yourself
Overwork or burn out trying to prove your worth
Struggle with anxiety or people-pleasing
Feel that success is never enough
Some people push themselves relentlessly — climbing the career ladder, neglecting their wellbeing or personal relationships — all in an attempt to finally feel worthy.
Why Do Old Messages Still Affect You?
When that comment was made years ago, it didn’t just hurt emotionally — it was stored in the subconscious mind. The subconscious then tries to protect you by reinforcing that belief, even when it’s no longer true or helpful.
This is why simply “thinking positively” often doesn’t work.
The belief isn’t conscious — it’s learned, automatic, and deeply ingrained.
The good news is that subconscious beliefs can be changed.
How Counselling and Hypnotherapy Help You Let Go
Counselling and hypnotherapy work together to help you understand, process, and release unhelpful patterns and beliefs.
These approaches can help you:
Understand where negative beliefs originated
Reduce anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Quiet the inner critical voice
Release old subconscious programming
Build healthier self-belief and confidence
Create new, positive internal messages
Change doesn’t come from pushing yourself harder or proving your worth. It comes from awareness, understanding, and compassionate change at a deeper level.
You Don’t Have to Keep Proving Yourself
You don’t need to keep living by messages that were formed in your past. You don’t need to keep proving yourself to someone who is no longer part of your life.
Letting go isn’t about forgetting — it’s about freeing yourself.

Ready to Move Forward?
If anxiety, self-doubt, or old beliefs are affecting your life, you don’t have to manage them alone.
Counselling and hypnotherapy can help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.
