Hello

I am a counsellor and hypnotherapist, not of my own choosing.  I see my job now as my son's legacy to me.  In 2002 my baby boy died at 3 days old.  This was when the world stopped for me.  I knew from that moment that I needed to help other people who had suffered child loss and trauma.

My Story

As well as being a counsellor, I was a primary school teacher for 25 years, and finally ended my teaching career in  December 2023.

While teaching I came across many different abilities and needs, in-fact I was a Special Needs Co-ordinator in a couple of schools.

I've always loved helping children learn, and finding ways for them to learn if the 'conventional classroom' way doesn't work for them. We're all different and I realised I started to become a little angry at the school system when they would talk about inclusion and differentiation, but still expected children to follow the school routine, or sit at a table for 4 hours a day trying to do work that their brain just couldn't comprehend.

I now hear stories from clients who had problems at school because their teachers didn't understand them, or there was only one way to work a maths sum out, but they couldn't understand that way.  Client's talk about feeling odd, uncomfortable, not having many friends at school, or not knowing how to join in when a teacher said go and play.

My passion is helping people through difficult times and to understand themselves better.

Training to be a counsellor started for me when my son died in 2002.  I wanted to help people who had gone through similar to me.  What I didn't add to the mix, was that I needed counselling before I could help anyone else.  Counselling changed me and made me even more determined to be a counsellor.  At the same time I trained as a hypnotherapist, which is a fantastic tool in helping people get to the root of a problem, or to uncover lost memories.

As a way of giving back I am also a befriender for The Lullaby Trust, where I chat to mum's who are in the early stages of baby loss. I am the person that mum's feel comfortable crying to.  I am the person who says their child's name and encourages them to remember the special moments.

Being told that I'm the only person who understands is so precious to me, and a privilege.
